Is anybody else here still watching an old bulky TV instead of a newer flat screen TV? I have a flat screen computer monitor that's also a TV, but the other TVs in the place are the old kind and they're still hanging in there. I'm looking forward to getting a larger flat screen model, but we'll also have to change the home entertainment stand as well because of the different size of the TVs.
Right now, we are perfectly happy with our "old" television and won't purchase another screen until we are ready to tie in computers with the screen. By then, the technology should be much less expensive, I have always thought it unwise to run out and get the newest technology. It seems to start out terribly over priced.
I don't think I will get a flat screen for a long time yet. I remember when calculators first came out and were really expensive, after a while, they were dirt cheap. I think the same thing will happen with flat screens.
We don't have any flat screens either. The older ones still work perfectly fine and although they might be a little bulkier, they fit fine for where we have them, so no need in spending the extra money on new ones just yet.
We haven't yet made the move to a flat screen tv. Our faithful old Sharp still does the job for us, it works fine, we're still, frankly, blown away that the thing offers us stereo sound
That reminds me of the first CD player I saw back in 83. The price was $1,500! Now you can get a DVD player for $30.
Yes... and remember how horribly expensive VHS movies were when they first came out? I remember seeing them for like $70 and $80 and wondering how on earth anyone could justify buying a VCR.
I was still watching a big old bulky one that we bought more than 10 years ago... probably more than 15 UNTIL three weeks ago. It gave up the ghost and there isn't an old model to be found anymore, so I have a flat screen now as the main TV.
I’m still watching on an old bulky TV. I have n choice since I don’t have the money to buy those flat screens TV.
I think you're lucky that it still works then. Ours started acting as if it was on its last breath about 6 or 7 years ago but valiantly hung on this long.
In my country you could buy a descent working second hand TV. So when that happened then I would just buy a second hand.
It truly takes a bit of brain stretching for me to try to conjure where technology is going with tv. As the sets become thinner (but the screens grwo wider) have we seen the end of the beloved wood consoles (or will they become a custom project, more or less like a frame)?
Those things are from the 70’s. I doubt that any TV from that generation would still be working up to now.
My opinion would be that we've seen the end of them except for the custom made things you already mentioned. As far as the wider screens go, have you noticed that the bigger they get, the LESS clear they are?
I think I'll be doing some research before I get the next generation. I'm not clear of plasma vs. LCD, etc. I have noticed some "bleeding" of colors on a large screen TV, but I'm not sure if that's from the TV or the transmission.
My sister recently got one of the really huge screens... not sure of the size and I didn't ask... but after we all saw it and were on the way home, we all agreed that we'd noticed the picture wasn't as clear as we'd expected. I think there's a certain size that looks good and anything above it needs more technology.
With the digital switch on the way and our old tv's dying off one by one, we went with the flat panels. Best decision we ever made. Discovery specials look so much better on them!
Our old TV is also bleeding but it is still working fine up to now. If only I have the money then I would buy an LCD TV. I heard that the price is lower right now.
I've noticed that the prices have gone down, too. Even lower than when we bought ours about six weeks ago or so!
I’m hoping that by the time I got the money then the price would be lower so that I could buy a DVD from the excess money.
