Has Anyone Ever Seen....

    ....the old men faces that people are carving on living trees? My cousin's little girl loved them and for her birthday one year, he had a man come and carve one for her. She loved it. The carver said the face will last between 5-8 years if you keep it shellaced. I have been tempted to go out to the woods and try this but I just have a few basic tools. I would probably have to go tool shopping and that is just such a pain-NOT!:p

    I've seen those! But I've seen them carved into chunks of log that you sit on a table or coffee table. I even saw one that they had turned into a lamp. It was pretty neat!

    There was a fellow at our local Renaissance Festival who carved the same sorts of faces into the handles of his hand made brooms.

    Sort of makes the broom a member of the family!

    I've seen artistic carvings in dead stumps that were actually quite tall, but I don't think that I've ever seen something like that carved into a living tree.

    I would think you have to try not to go too deep to avoid hurting the tree?
