I haven't heard any details yet, just the news bulletin I received in my email. He was in his early 70s, I believe. Did anyone watch and enjoy Kung Fu?
David Carradine appeared to hang himself, and the Bangkok police think it was suicide. His friends, although, think it must have been auto erotic asphyxiation gone wrong. A man in his seventies still having so much life force (prana) to still be doing that, you just have to smile. Kung Fu meant alot to my husband. I remember the premiere night, coming home after the show. Hubbins said, "You won't believe the TV movie I saw tonight", and after I had a chance to see it, I was blown away. Kung Fu came on when very few people understood the philosophy, but Hubbins did, and he watched the show religiously. I used to watch it and turn to him and say, "That's just what you do!", or "that really steams me when you say what Kwai Chang just said!" My husband would do a dead-on impression. "I," he shrugged, "am a Priest." Happy trails, David. We love you.
Aw, this is so very sad! The last I heard (soon after I wrote the thread here) was a report that it "appeared to be natural causes." Wonder how on earth they got *that* mixed up? Happy trails indeed and prayers for his family.
I heard that he had tried to commit suicide when he was five years old, so it wouldn't be impossible for him to have succeeded as an adult. I heard about the possibility of erotic asphyxiation, but that could have been a red herring. Apparently, the family thinks there was foul play.
It would seem like someone his age would have had enough experience with the activity to have taken some safety precautions, so I can see why the family might feel an outside investigation would be in order.
I remember when the lead singer (sorry I can't remember his name!!!) from INXS died, I read where someone was saying the deal with the autoerotic asphyxiation is taking yourself to the very edge, where the pleasure is the most intense. There are a number of guys that go just a little over the edge and don't come back. I've heard that the family is saying there may be foul play with David's death. However it happened, it's a tragedy.
I have a feeling that a lot more people live through autoerotic asphyxiation, than die from it. I just hope they get to the bottom of what really happened.
I'm sure it must be a repeat, as I watched it about 1:00 AM. Larry King had a really nice tribute show about David Carradine. The folk that were there seemed to be good friends and they had some heartfelt things to say about David. Catch it in a rerun if you can.
