Were any of you standing in line at the post office to meet last night's
tax filing deadline? Not I... I got ours done about a month ago and it
was absolutely brutal this time. Used a new online preparer software.
Turned out well with the bottom line but my goodness was that stressful!

We get taxes done and sent during February, usually, to avoid the added stress of filing too close to the due date.

This year we should get a chunk of change back!

I always start thinking about it in February and add "taxes!" to my online popup calendar for every morning :D but it's usally mid March until I actually get it done.

Chunk of change would certainly be nice... we got $11. hehe Seriously... enough for a pizza. BUT last year we needed to pay a few hundred, so that's not a complaint... I like pizza. :)

If you get a great deal back you should be ashamed of yourself! That is money that you overpaid and allowed the government to use, interest free, for a year.

Mine were done in early Feb. I can't take the credit. I have a financial planner in the family and they are always done before the season heats up.

How I would love to have someone else do our taxes. I might consider that next time. I start stressing over it in early February and always intend to have them done before March arrives. It's usually around the 15th or 20th of March when I actually get around to doing it, though.

I get nothing back. My sister is really great at these things (she should be, it's what she does). So everything goes according to plan.

We needed to pay in last year, and more than just a little bit and it was so annoying since we never had to before. This year there was a little refund, but not from the state. The state actually cheated us last year.

Seriously! I did the taxes wrong and added something to the income that turned out to be not taxable. I sent them $150 for it and they never returned it or anything. THIS year I did it right and nothing was owed, as it should have been last year. :)

I get a little more timid about it each year... does your sister use personal software, do it the old fashioned way with paper and calculator, or do it with one of the online preparing places?

My husband always gets the taxes done about as early as possible, and sees how quickly he can get the return (if there is one).

Good plan. That's what I want to do every year but it's become a ritual for me... around New Year's, I start thinking that as soon as all the paperwork arrives by 31 Jan, I'll just do it right away and get it over with.

Then everything comes and I give myself a break thinking "surely I'll get it done in early February." hehe Never works.

    Kat,
She uses a professional software program and double checks it by hand (she's a type "A" personality).

If anything ever happens to her, I'm completely screwed....LOL

I think I'd end up doing the same... well, I'm sure of it. I've been online for about 14 years and I still don't fully trust software. :D
