Does anybody else here get into watching TV seasons on DVD? We have X Files, 24, Dark Angel and Titus to name a few. I think it's a great activity if you're cocooning, staying in to conserve money... Especially if you got a great deal on the season. We've bought entire seasons for $20 or less.
That's really how we first started getting into the Sopranos, it had been on for a couple of seasons and we didn't have HBO at the time, so we watched a couple of season's worth of shows over about a week. Got us hooked and we ordered HBO
We started watching LOST on the Sci-Fi channel, but programming has been rescheduled a few times and we have lost track, and lost interest, in watching the show on tv. We'll probably rent seasons to find out what happens!
We also have some other series on DVD. I got the first and second Riches (why it didn't catch on, I've no idea, it was brilliant), Coupling, Rising Damp, Kung Fu, quite a few actually. I got the first season of Rescue Me at the local grocery outlet. I never saw the first shows which surely would explain some of the stuff that I had to guess about in the later seasons.
Timely topic. Just yesterday I ordered a few from Amazon. Fun ones this time... Perfect Strangers (mostly for my daughter) and the first season of Kids Say the Darndest Things. I was *totally* shocked (pleasantly!) at everything that is available now... nearly everything I looked for was actually there.
I think that's a good idea for a show like Lost. I missed some episodes and lost the details of the back story. Heroes is another one that I find it hard to just jump into again.
I don’t like to buy those because I don’t like to pay for something I have already watched. I just can’t understand why people buy those DVD from the TV episodes.
Do you not watch a good movie more than once? For me, it's very similar. If it's a good show, it's worth watching again. We're in the process of watching the entire series of The X Files and that takes a long time. I'd expect we won't do that again for a few years.
For me, it's shows that they won't be putting into reruns. And some things are worth watching more than once. I'm buying things that I haven't seen for 10 or 15 years and they'll never appear on television again. That's why. Isn't there a series from your childhood that you'd love to see again, or have your kids see?
That's a very good reason to rent the seasons. With everybody's busy schedules, it is hard to sit down and watch a whole show sometimes, or to catch all of the shows in sequence..
Speaking of Titus, has anybody watched his new stand-up? We tried to watch it the other night, but the station's sound was malfunctioning. We assume this new stand-up is hilarious, as usual.
Yeah, Taggart, I agree. There's so much crap on TV, when you find a good show, you want to see it again (and again) to savour it.
I'd love to see new stand-up from Titus. I've seen parts of his one man show Norman Rockwell is Bleeding and a set he did at the Just For Laffs festival in Montreal, but nothing lately.
And not only that, but most likely you'll enjoy sitting down with it and seeing it again in a couple of years. That's what the old series are doing for me... and they have almost every show I could think of... from the dawn of television in a lot of cases. Amazing!
When our kids were at home, they used to like to tape different TV shows, and they'd just set the VCR to record and let it keep going, not editing commercials. Every once and a while, we'll watch one of these tapes when we're in a nostalgic mood, and the funny thing is the commercials are just as entertaining as the shows. Seeing old commercials brings back old memories; they're fun to see!
I like seeing old commercials, too. I sure wish we would have kept those old VHS's that we recorded like that. But we eventually recorded over them. One that I remember having was the Nick at Night reruns of F-Troop. Remember F-Troop, anyone?
I became a fan of the X-Files 3-4 episodes before the final one. I had the video tapes with 2 episodes on them.... I actually bought my first DVD player when the 3rd season of the X-Files came out on DVD. I hadn't know about the first two seasons or I would have bought it sooner! I also both those first 3 seasons with the DVD player and spent a week watching them all.
Oh, I also have Boston Legal, Forever Knight, Deadwood and the Sopranos entire series. Add to that several hundred other movies and you can understand why I NEEDED a home theater!
The only series we're collecting at the moment is NCIS. I have the first two and will probably soon be getting the third season. I don't watch it but my husband likes it... I'm more for individual movies when I watch anything at all but that's rare.
I loved F-Troop. I thought it was one of the funniest shows on TV. One thing about it though; if you hear the theme song for the first season's shows, the words will stick in your head for weeks.
