If you could go out to your garage, and find a perfectly complete woodworking shop, what sorts of things would you make for your kitchen? Most people would probably make those huge tossed salad spoons and forks, but I think really nice set of bowls or a cake stand would be great. Even a really cool table and chairs would be nice. What would you make, and what wood would you use?
We could really use some storage cupboards that match the built in cupboards. Something that was free standing as apposed to a fixture built onto the wall would be ideal for us.
What a great question! I'd start with a buffet hutch to store some extra food storage. That would be for someone who's more advanced, though... so I think I could really use a wooden bread box and would start with that.
I have a little nook in my kitchen that would accommodate a nice rocking chair. Have you seen the prices of these chairs? Yow!!! I'd make it in a nice fragrant pine, and just a medium stain.
I didn't even think about spoons and bowls when you first asked the question. My mind went immediately to an island....I could 'really' use an island counter right in the middle of my kitchen, with maybe some shelves or cabinets underneath.
That sounds absolutely gorgeous. Wish I'd have space in my kitchen for something like that... It would be the first thing I'd have installed!
Years ago I saw this "Chinese Cabinet" that had a lazy susan-like turntable that pulled out of the cabinet, with drawers that extended outward. I couldn't believe the number of spices and cans this woman managed to get inside. I saw this over ten years ago and haven't seem anything like it since, but it would be great in a small kitchen, or any kitchen for that matter.
Would you have your island set up with as an extra prep area or would be strictly for storage, with a little overhang and a few stools for quick meals?
I think it would be great to have one of those hanging pot racks. They are usually made of metal so one made of a really nice wood would be unique.
Wow, this sounds *really* nice and I wish I'd know how to get ahold of a cabinet like that! It sounds as if it would allow a lot more storage than a regular cabinet or hutch of most kinds.
I know you asked this to someone else but since I desperately need an island, too, I'll answer it. I'd like as much storage space as I could get out of it but it would also be important for it to give me some extra prep space. I sadly lack that in my current kitchen setup.
Wow, there are such neat ideas! I've wanted an overhead pot and pan rack for forever. I love Lazy Susans, they are great on a table or in a cupboard.
I think that I would make a kitchen table so that we could use it for cooking purpose. We are scratching the dining table every time we are using it for kitchen works.
I think a lazy susan would be a great beginner project for anyone just getting into woodworking! I've wanted one for my table but so far have settled for a decorative flat tray.
Some families use the kitchen table for crafts as well, so it would be cool to make a table that had drawers for the crafts items. One piece of furniture, two uses!
Right now I have two (plastic) lazy susans in my kitchen; in the spice cupboard, and in the cupboard where we keep our vitamins. I couldn't imagine not being to keep those cupboards in any kind of order without the lazy susans. They just save so much time, and space as well. I would love to have one of those big, old-fashioned wooden ones on my kitchen table, to hold all the stuff that just winds up piled in the middle in a big mess!
I wonder how difficult it would be to make wooden herb grinders? They'd be just like those pepper grinders and they could have the name of the herb they grind on the side. You could stock each grinder with a dried herb from your garden. That might be something nice, and special, to have in a kitchen!
